Privacy Policy
CrossWordUz ("the site", "we") is a platform for solving crosswords, sudoku, picture crosswords and kakuro in three languages (Uzbek, Russian, English). This page explains what data is collected when you use the site, how it is used, and how you can control it.

1. Data we collect
- Registration data: when you create an account, we store your name, email or phone number, and password (only as a one-way hash, never in plain text).
- Visitor log: on every GET request we automatically record your IP address, an approximate IP-based location (country, region, city), browser and operating system type, the page you visited, and the referrer. These records are automatically deleted after 180 days.
- LocalStorage: your browser only stores an anonymous, randomly generated "visitor_uuid" identifier, which cannot identify you personally. It is used to count view/solve statistics for anonymous visitors and to avoid showing the language-switcher hint more than once.
- Contact form: when you send a message, we store your name, email (if you are not logged in), the message text, and your IP address.
- Telegram registration: if you register with a phone number, a one-time confirmation code (OTP) is sent via our Telegram bot; the phone number is stored temporarily and linked to your account once confirmed.
- Newsletter (optional): if you check the "news" box during registration, we may send you administration messages by email or Telegram. You can opt out at any time from your profile settings or by contacting us.
2. Cookies and similar technologies
We use session and CSRF cookies required for the site to function. Google AdSense ads may also place advertising cookies. See the Cookie Policy page for details on cookie types and how to manage them.
3. Google AdSense and advertising
The site displays ads through Google AdSense. Google and its advertising partners may use cookies and similar technologies to show you ads that may be relevant to you. You can opt out of personalized advertising or change your settings at adssettings.google.com. The site does not currently use Google Analytics or any other third-party analytics service.
4. How we use your data
- Providing the service: creating your account, saving crossword/sudoku solving progress, and calculating your statistics (views, solves, wishlist).
- Security: detecting bots and abuse (for example, an unnaturally fast rate of switching between pages).
- Support: responding to requests you send through the contact form.
- Notifications: if you are subscribed, sending you announcements about new crosswords/sudoku and administration messages.
- Site analytics: improving the site based on visit statistics (which pages are most viewed, identifying technical errors).
5. Sharing data with third parties
- Google: as the provider of the AdSense advertising service (through advertising cookies).
- Telegram: to deliver OTP confirmation codes and, if you are subscribed, notifications, via the Telegram Bot API.
- Email provider: to send confirmation emails, password resets, and notifications via SMTP.
- Your data is never sold to third parties for advertising or marketing purposes.
6. Data security
Passwords are never stored in plain text — only as a one-way hash. Communication with the site is encrypted over HTTPS in production. That said, no method of transmission over the internet can be guaranteed to be completely secure.
7. Data retention
Your account data is kept for as long as your account exists. The visitor log (IP, location, browser data) is automatically deleted after 180 days. Contact messages are kept until reviewed by the administration.
8. Your rights
- View and update your name, email, phone, and password in your profile at any time.
- Unsubscribe from notifications if you were subscribed.

9. Children's privacy
The site is intended for a general audience and does not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If such a case is identified, the relevant data will be deleted.
10. Changes to this policy
This privacy policy may be updated from time to time. Significant changes will be reflected in the "Last updated" date on this page.
